Every day we count how much the sources we read publish in each domain of culture, per 100 sources reporting that day, and compare it with what that domain normally does on the stamped days before it. The board below is that comparison: each dot is today, each tick a stamped day before it, and the signed number how far today sits from its usual.
It is a measure of attention, not of importance. A domain can be loud because one story is being repeated, and quiet while something real is forming in it. That is why the cover leads with what was read rather than with what was counted.

- Cells are not on one scale, so compare the signed numbers, not the strips' lengths.
- A hollow dot has fewer than 14 stamped days behind it, so it is early rather than settled.
- It says the volume moved; it does not say why.
